Introducing NPL Cricket League

Today we're sharing the project we've started at Lacspace: NPL Cricket League, an online T20 franchise cricket game for iOS and Android, made in Nepal.

What it is

The goal is simple to say and hard to build: the feel of a night match in Nepal, in your hands. A floodlit ground with the hills behind it. A crowd that gets loud when the ball clears the rope. Commentary and menus in Nepali, with English one tap away. A soundtrack with Nepali instruments in it.

On the field, every ball has a line, a length and a speed. You read it, choose your footwork and time your shot. With the ball in hand you pick your pace or spin, your line and your field.

Real team names, our own art, fictional players

The game features eight franchises carrying the real team names of Nepal's T20 franchise league, from the Sudurpaschim Royals in the far west to the Biratnagar Kings in the east. The names are real; the crests, colours, kits and game venues you see in the game are our own designs, not the franchises' logos or kits. We will only use a franchise's official logo after it gives us written permission. All players are fictional, created for the game. Meet the eight franchises.

NPL Cricket League is not affiliated with, endorsed by or licensed by the Cricket Association of Nepal, the Nepal Premier League or its franchises.

Where it stands

The game is in development. We don't have a release date yet, and we won't announce one until we're sure of it. Here is what we're planning for the first version:

• online quick matches, ranked and unranked, with Lumi AI opponents when nobody is free;
• a league season with one of the eight franchises, 14 matches and playoffs;
• friends rooms with a share code;
• festival events, starting with a Dashain Cup.

The plan is for the game to be free to play, with cosmetics only. Pay-to-win is never allowed.

Pre-registration opens as soon as our servers go live. When it does, you can leave your email, phone type and favourite team, and we'll invite you when the closed beta begins. Until then, follow this news page for updates from the studio.
